Meet Darren Cain

PGA Golf Coach & Mind Factor Mindset Expert

A fully qualified PGA Professional since 2001, I bring over two decades of experience in both playing and coaching golf at a high level. I’ve competed in tournament golf, with a career highlight being my victory in the 2006 Regional Qualifying for The Open.

My coaching journey has taken me to prestigious venues such as The Mere Golf Resort in Cheshire and The Tytherington Club in Macclesfield. More recently, I launched my own state-of-the-art indoor golf facility, offering Trackman-enabled practice and lessons to a thriving base of players.  I’m also a certified Mind Factor coach, trained under renowned performance coach Karl Morris.

Now based in Hertfordshire, I offer in-person coaching as well as online programmes via the V1 Golf app. When I’m not on the course or in the studio, I’m a passionate fan of both football and golf.

My coaching philosophy

Better golf starts with better understanding

After 25 years as a PGA Professional, playing tournament golf and coaching golfers of all abilities, I’ve learned that improving your golf isn’t simply about finding the “right” technique. It’s about understanding what needs to change and why, and - most importantly - how each individual can change it.

I believe most golfers are trying to improve the right things, but often in the wrong way. My role as a coach is to bridge that gap.

I combine my experience as a player and coach, a TrackMan expert, and qualified Mind Factor coach, to understand both the golf swing and the golfer. TrackMan allows me to accurately identify what is happening in the swing and ball flight, while my coaching experience allows me to understand why it is happening.

But technology and knowledge are only valuable if they can be communicated effectively.

Individual coaching, not a one-size-fits-all approach

Every golfer is different. They learn differently, think differently, move differently and respond differently to instruction. So I don’t believe in giving everyone the same lesson.

I take complex information and turn it into simple, practical and understandable advice that makes sense to the individual golfer. My aim is for every player to leave a lesson knowing:

  • What they need to change

  • Why they need to change it

  • How to practise it

  • What success feels and looks like

  • And, crucially, why they can do it

Change that lasts

Real improvement isn’t about making a change for one golf lesson or hitting a few good shots on the range. It’s about creating new habits that hold up under pressure and become part of your game.

My Mind Factor coaching background has given me a deep understanding of how people think, learn and change behaviours. That allows me to coach beyond the mechanics of the golf swing and help golfers develop the understanding, confidence and belief required to make lasting improvements.

My goal

I don’t want golfers to simply copy a movement because I’ve told them to. I want them to understand their golf.

When a golfer understands what is happening, understands why it is happening, and believes they have the ability to change it, improvement becomes much more achievable.

My philosophy is simple: diagnose accurately, explain clearly, coach individually, and create change that lasts.

Because the best coaching isn’t about giving every golfer the same answer. It’s about finding the right answer for that golfer - and giving them the understanding and belief to make it their own.
